Introduction

Areas

  • Each IS-IS device resides in only one area.
  • Routing within an area is referred to as Level 1.
  • Routing between areas is referred to as Level 2.

Level 2

  • Considered the backbone area.
  • Level 2 should be contiguous, which means only one L2 area should exist in the ISIS routing domain.

Level 1

  • Considered the regular area.
