Introduction

There are two common way to deploying MPLS TE, either tactically or strategically.

MPLS TE Deployments

• Two main methods of deploying:
  • Tactical
  • Selective
• For both methods, the following info is required:
  • Bandwidth requirements at the head ends.
  • Available bandwidth at each node in the network.

Tactical/Selective

• Selectively deploy MPLS TE to congested links only.
• Apply MPLS TE only to specific costly links like inter-continental links to manager its utilization.

Strategic

• Deploy MPLS TE all over the network as a strategy to delay upgrades to the network.
