Introduction

The BGP routing protocol can be used between CE and PE. The most advanced setup but most flexible in terms of capabilities.

BGP

  • BGP is a good protocol for both Stub and Transit VPNs.
  • Does not require multiple routing algorithm instances like for IGP.
  • Using BGP, the CE could suggest a particular Rout Target value for a prefix (RFC4364 Section 7), since extended communities can be advertised to the CEs.
